Were Bangalore blasts rehearsal?

July 27, 2008 by Ram D   news under India News

TIMES NOW has learnt that on Thursday (July 24) a crude bomb with ammonium nitrate was found about 70kms away from Bangalore in Chennapatna in Ramanagara District. The bomb which had ammonium nitrate was found in huge amounts in plastic bags along with detonators.

Srikumar DGP, Karnataka confirmed the report and said, “On July 24, in Chenapatna one trunk was abandoned near the main road. We do not know whether it was a full fledged bomb or it was just used to carry explosive”.

Even though the explosion was not of huge magnitude sources say that the incident could have been a dress rehearsal carried out by militants on the eve of the serial blasts in Bangalore. The crude bomb was packed into a box and wrapped in plastic.

Karnataka DGP told TIMES NOW, “Around 2:30 on July 24, there seems to have been a small explosion. Police collected the material for forensic examinations and then the blast in Bangalore took place. So we got the experts to examine the trunk which was completely sealed. We have found same type of explosives inside.”

Terror struck the IT capital of Bangalore on Friday (July 25) after eight serial blasts rocked the southern city of Bangalore  within a span of 60 minutes. Two persons including a woman have been killed and about 20 people have been reportedly injured. (Read more)

Bangalore police intensify probe into serial blasts

The investigation into the serial blasts in the city has intensified with the police today (July 27)
questioning an unknown number of people as the needle of suspicion still pointed towards banned outfit SIMI, with the crack team pursuing leads.

The city police are also in touch with their Ahmedabad counterparts following reports that the blasts there yesterday were similar in nature to that took place in Bangalore a day earlier. “We are anticipating a report from the Gujarat government,” a senior police official said.

The crack team headed by Joint Commissioner of Police Gopal Hosur, entrusted with the task of uncovering the plot, is in the process of piecing together the clues. Bangalore Police are leveraging on the expertise of the National Security Guards and forensic experts to pin down the perpetrators of the blasts.

The cement pots used in the explosions here has given rise to the argument that the perpetrators had “local support”. Unlike the Ahmedabad blasts, no group had so far claimed responsibility to the explosions.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the time had come to put up a united face, irrespective of party affiliations, to put down acts of such nature. He said the Centre should infuse strength in state governments to fight the menace of terrorism. The state Government is expected to make a statement on the ongoing investigation in the blasts case, in the Assembly which is in session.

Meanwhile, there were at least three hoax bomb calls in the day. One said a bomb had been planted near the house of Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan, another said it was at Garuda Mall and the third one said it was at K C General Hospital.
