Maharashtra Affiliation Issue Gets Murkier

Just when Hockey India (HI) has warded off one crisis, another looms large for the body, which goes to polls on Feb. 7. HI’s affiliation process and the alleged interference of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and its affiliates in the process has come under scrutiny with some groups taking the matter to court.
On Thursday, the Mumbai High Court admitted a petition challenging the affiliation process in Maharashtra on a one-state-one-association basis. The petition was moved by the Mumbai and Vidarbha hockey associations along with a faction of the Maharashtra Hockey Association, all of whom have been ignored.
HI has given recognition to a group owing alliance to IOA president Suresh Kalmadi, who is reportedly one of the contestants for the HI president’s post. The affiliation has been challenged before a double-bench, which has asked the petitioners to issue notices to HI, IOA, Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA) and the Sports Ministry among others.
The petition alleges that HI has not even responded to complaints. HI had, in its meeting on Nov. 30, granted affiliation to a faction of the Maharashtra Hockey Association led by president Victor Ellis and secretary Ikram Khan. “The fact that two bodies are claiming separate affiliation proves that proper merger had not taken place,” said Mumbai Hockey Association spokesman Joaquim Carvalho.
“MLB Draft Reports On The 2009 Results”
The first round of Major League Baseball’s 2009 first-Year draft is held between June 9 to June 11 at the MLB Network in New York. The first 2009 MLB pick was completed last evening at Studio 42 at MLB Network in Secaucus, New Jersey. The result is that 16 pitchers are selected on the first pick of the Draft, including 12 right handers and four left handers.
The MLB Draft results are momorable because of the coming of new players. With the Draft in prime time for the first time, Stephen Strasburg was the star of the show. Back in The Show, Boston moved to 6-0 vs. the Yanks, and the Mets outslugged Philly.
MLB reports on the 2009 draft results
“On one June evening, the newest players in the Major League universe – so new they haven’t even signed contracts yet – shared the stage with the oldest and most storied rivalry in the game. Stephen Strasburg and the rest of the First-Year Player Draft newbies, meet Yankees-Red Sox, now deadlocked atop the AL East despite a lopsided head-to-head. On the same night, one of the game’s best starters gave up four homers and still managed to win thanks to one of the game’s best closers, as another Northeast rivalry was renewed.”
Here is the list of MLB Draft 2009 Results. This is the first pick, according to Wikipedia.

“Megan Fox Black Dress Revenge Of The Fallen” Seoul Premiere”
Megan Fox wore a scorching hot Black Dress with sheer or translucent panels to the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” Seoul premiere. Check out pictures and video here.
Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf were in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday (June 9) as part of their “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” promotional trip throughout Asia. The event was held at the Yongsan CGV, and the actors were accompanied by director Michael Bay.
The talk of the evening stems from the Black Dress, with sheer or translucent panels, that Fox sported, creating a frenzy of internet surfers, which of course are mainly guys. The second that the public got wind that the so called Angelina Jolie heir out did the gown she wore to the Tokyo premiere, web searches skyrocketed for “megan fox black dress” and “megan fox seoul premiere.”
The Huffington Post displays a fine photo gallery of the gorgeous starlet flaunting her stuff, which has the potential to bring her to red-carpet legend status.
In other news, Celebrity Gossip reports that the mother of Megan Fox, Darlene Fox, doesn’t want her daughter to get any more tattoos. A source told the site that
“Her mom has never understood why her daughter would want to cover her gorgeous body with tattoos. After each new tattoo, Darlene pleaded with Megan not to get more.
What do you think? Do tattoos make Megan Fox even more attractive, less attractive, or indifferent? Also, what dress do you think was hotter, the Black Dress she wore to the Seoul premiere, or the purple gown she sported at the Tokyo premiere? Let us know your opinions in the comment section below.

“The Red Sox Selected Outfielder Raymond Fuentes”
With their first-round pick, the Red Sox selected outfielder Reymond Fuentes, a high schooler from Puerto Rico. Fuentes is the cousin of Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran, meaning that the Sox have taken a player with big-league bloodlines with their top pick for the second straight year, following Casey Kelly’s selection in the first round last year. Fuentes is considered a player whose natural abilities — with tremendous speed and raw power — make him a high-upside selection.
The 18-year-old Fuentes – listed at 6-foot-1, and weighing 165 pounds – is described as raw in his offensive approach, with a need to improve his plate discipline. The Sox have not shied from such players with their top overall picks, most notably when they took Clay Buchholz in the sandwich round of the 2005 draft and Jason Place with their first pick in the 2006 draft.
Fuentes is drawing comparisons in many corners to Johnny Damon. So that would make two top Red Sox picks in the last five drafts — Fuentes and Jacoby Ellsbury — who have drawn that comparison.
This marks the third straight year that the Sox have taken a player in the draft out of Puerto Rico, following shortstop Kenneth Roque (20th round, 2007) and Christian Vazquez (9th round, 2008). Prior to Roque’s selection, the Sox hadn’t taken a player out of Puerto Rico since 1997. Fuentes is the first first-rounder out of Puerto Rico since 2000, when the Jays took Miguel Negron with the 18th overall selection.
Here is what Baseball America had to say about Fuentes:
“A relative of Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran, Fuentes is an electric, game-changing player. The (5-foot-10), (165)-pound center fielder is slender, but has wiry strength and can put a change in a ball during batting practice. Like a ticking clock, he hits line drives from foul pole to foul pole with his lefthanded swing. He’s also an elite runner, clocking in at just under 6.3 seconds in the 60-yard dash at Puerto Rico’s annual Excellence Tournament in early May. In game situations, Fuentes stays within himself, goes with a contact-oriented approach and lets his plus speed play to his advantage. These tools make Fuentes an ideal leadoff hitter. Defensively, Fuentes’ range will allow him to stay in center field as a professional. Right down to his below-average arm, he’s a similar player to the Yankees’ Johnny Damon.”
The Sox were true to their promised approach of selecting the best player available, rather than focusing on need. The Sox have a number of young athletic outfielders in the lower levels of the minors — including players such as Ryan Kalish, Ryan Westmoreland, Pete Hissey, Che-Hsuan Lin and Jason Place. Fuentes adds to that well-populated group.

Lanka strike early as Sehwag continues blitz

Sri Lanka struck early at R Premadasa Stadium here today after Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch which showed little signs of wear and tear from the last ODI played here.
India got a big jolt in the start as Sri Lankan umpire MG Silva gave a horrendous decision which saw Tendulkar taking the long walk back to pavilion. Television replays clearly showed the ball pitched outside the line of leg stump. Fernando was the lucky man as the umpire held his appeal. Tendulkar scored 7 of 12 balls he faced.
Fernando was again in act as the next Indian to depart was Gautam Gambhir who scored a quick 10 runs before a straight drive Sehwag saw Gambhir’s stumps uprooted at the bowlers end. Fernando had managed to get his hand on the ball and the Delhi south paw just rued his luck while back to the dressing room.
India (probable): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Gautam Gambhir, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Zaheer Khan, 9 Praveen Kumar, 10 Pragyan Ojha, 11 Ishant Sharma.
Thilan Thushara has had two disappointing games, conceding 103 runs in 16 overs for one wicket. However, he played a critical role in bowling out Pakistan in the series decider in Lahore. Though he is under scrutiny, he is likely to retain his place.
Sri Lanka: Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Thilina Kandamby, Chamara Kapugedera, Farveez Maharoof, Thilan Thushara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ajantha Mendis.
