MUMBAI : She is the girl with the golden touch. In the past few years, Priyanka Chopra has cemented her place as one of the most bankable heroines in Bollywood. From “Dostana” to “Kaminey”, the dusky 27-year-old is experimenting with different roles but admits that at times she prefers to do “simplistic films”.
Chopra spoke to Reuters about her new film “Pyaar Impossible”, why she may not get any awards this year and how 2009 fared in her books.
Q: What made you say yes to “Pyaar Impossible”? It seems like a regular love story.
A: “When Uday (Chopra) and Jugal (Hansraj) came to me I think even they were not sure whether I would do the film, but what appealed to me was the simplicity of the script. At that point I was doing films like ‘Kaminey’ and ‘What’s Your Raashee’. I had just finished ‘Fashion’, all of which were very difficult films. The simplicity of the love story was something I really liked.”
Q: Your roles in the last couple of years have really differed. How do you see your growth as an actor during this time?
A: “I feel that I have just recently understood what acting really is and what I can do. I was very young when I started out, I was just 17. So now I am like a kid in a toy store. In every film, I want to do something different. I want to do different kinds of roles, different kinds of looks. I am very grateful for the last five or six films that I have done, because they have given me that kind of space.”
Q: Now that awards season is coming up, do you have any hopes from any of your films in 2009?
A: “Well, I don’t know about that. I am excited. ‘Kaminey’ got a great response for me. People loved my work in the film and it was something I didn’t expect. Anyway I try not to have expectations. Plus, I am not going to be in India at that time, and you know how awards are, you have to be there.”
Q: How has 2009 been for you?
A: “It was great. I won my Best Actress (award) this year for ‘Fashion’. ‘Fashion’ was really special because it was such a girl’s movie and was so heavy on me. The fact that a film like that did the business that it did, made me feel really good about myself. A lot of people said who is going to watch a female-centric film, but it had a great opening despite being an A- certificate film. ‘What’s Your Raashee’ didn’t do as well as it should have, so that upset me. I had put in a lot of work into the film but that is my job. As an actor you have to put you heart and soul into every film.”
Q: You had two of your toughest roles in “What’s Your Raashee” and “Kaminey”.
A: “Yes, both were hugely tough roles. ‘Kaminey’, especially because the character came from a background I didn’t identify with at all. It was crucial that Sweety had an intrinsic earthiness to her, which was difficult for me.
“It is easier for me to do ‘Dostana’. That is why I was hugely surprised when I got the reviews that I got for this film. It might be a risky proposition but what’s the point if you don’t push the envelope? There will be a time when you do a film that you know will do well, and even I will do those films once in a while.”
Q: You’ve also been accused of overworking, pushing yourself a lot. Is that true?
A: “Come on, I just fell ill during two films. During ‘Dostana’ I was working hard, I had two films releasing at that point. But imagine I was talking to you slowly and without any energy. How boring would I be. I love my energy and I am at my happiest when I am on set.”
Q: Have people been telling you to slow down?
A: “My parents told me for a while… but who listens to parents anyway? (laughs). I did listen, I went for a holiday, I am obedient like that. But then I came back and wanted to work. Now my mother has given up on me. I love people, I love my work.”
Q: Which films are in the pipeline?
A: “Well, there is ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ with Ranbir Kapoor which is a love story with a fresh twist to it. Then I am starting Vishal’s (Bhardwaj’s) film which will be my most difficult film, even though I know I say that about every film. It is like a dark comedy and it’s a part which is so brilliantly written. We have lots of male leads in the film — there are about seven husbands in the film. But I cannot say anything more about it.”

Mumbai: Shahid Kapur’s love life seems to be jinxed. The dishy actor, who previously lost his dainty lady Kareena to big daddy Saif, is now fighting hard to keep his current love Priyanka away from the charms of Hollywood macho Gerard Butler. Struggling for Piggy’s attention at a bash thrown in the honour of the foreign actor, Shahid lost his cool as his lady blushed at the flirtatious advances made by Gerard resulting in an acrimonious showdown with the dainty lass.
Living in denial, Piggy and Shahid might have snubbed all rumours of a reported love affair, but a recent fight between the duo has once again demonstrated that they might be more than just ‘good friends’.
According to the latest rumour running wild in B-town, Shahid is miffed with the swishy Piggy Chops over her growing proximity with the foreign sensation. Though the gorgeous twosome maintained a sober chemistry at the grand bash thrown for Gerard, the real fireworks happened after the party.
Insiders swear that post party the couple had a spat courtesy Gerard’s overtly friendly acts. Hurling names and accusation at Priyanka, Shahid walked off on the somber beauty.
Following the fight, the couple failed to show up at Shah Rukh’s party thrown for Butler. What’s more is that it’s not just Gerard who is making Shahid see red. The actor is also peeved with Priyanka for being in talking terms with Hurman.
But if Shahid believes that Priyanka is going to take his inexplicable nakhras sitting down he is grossly mistaken, as grapevine has it that Piggy has confessed to near and dear ones that Shahid doesn’t feel her type now.

Shahid’s Coffee Time With Priyanka Chopra

After a break-up with Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor has been linked with various celeb beauties like Vidya Balan and Sania Mirza but the actor has always denied having an affair with anyone.
Recently the actor was seen at a coffee shop in Mumbai along with glam-doll Priyanka Chopra. Being with Priyanka for a coffee is a different thing but booking the whole floor for sharing a cup of coffee is what sniffs suspicion about the couple.
Is Priyanka the girl who would be taking Bebo’s place in Shahid’s heart? Well, only time could answer this question. We tried to get in touch with Shahid and Priyanka on the same but neither of them answered our call. It would be interesting to see whether Shahid would again be denying having a love
affair and naming the relationship to be mere friendship. – Sampurn Media
Priyanka Dances for 22 Hrs

MUMBAI: Not only is Priyanka Chopra playing as many as 12 different characters in Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Raashee?, she has also stunned everybody by dancing non-stop for 22 hours for a special song in the movie. Under the choreographic supervision of Raju Khan, Priyanka performed to a song that required her to bring all the 12 characters together in all their varying moods and personalities.
“Priyanka shot with Raju Khan (who is Saroj Khan’s son) for 22 hours at a stretch. At times she couldn’t sit or take a breather for hours at a stretch. It was very important to get the continuity right. Otherwise the characters’ graph would’ve become lopsided. To dance and emote to a song in 12 different looks and make-up all at once is not an easy thing,” said a source close to the film.
Though Priyanka isn’t allowed to speak about it, it was a challenge that required her to swing from mood to mood at the drop of a beat.
Apparently Priyanka wasn’t allowed breaks between shots, as this would have broken the rhythm of the 12 characters as captured in one line of vision. Each of the characters represents a different star sign of the zodiac.
The film also stars Priyanka’s ex-beau Hurman S. Baweja. Although Priyanka and Hurman broke up after the disastrous Love Story 2050, onlookers say the two are so compatible off and on screen that it’s impossible to tell the status of their personal equation.
“They’re laughing and joking on the sets even when they aren’t facing the camera. In fact, Hurman was there to support her when she did the tough 12-avatar dance act,” a source said.
Priyanka’s unique role, which can only be compared to Sanjeev Kumar’s nine avatars in Naya Din Nayi Raat could well have been Kareena Kapoor’s, if she hadn’t turned it down.
“Yes, it was offered to me and Shahid Kapur. I’d have loved to do another film with Shahid. But the dates were clashing with Karan’s film that Rensil d’Silva is directing with me and Saif,” Kareena told IANS.
The actress, who broke up with Shahid while shooting for Jab We Met, is currently dating Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan.
“We’re professionals, all of us. Even if I’m working in a film with Saif in place of a film with Shahid, we’re thorough professionals. There’s no time to party or go out or do any of the fun things. We shot in a tube station in Philadelphia in below-freezing temperatures and we need to cover as much work as possible in limited time,” Kareena said.

Priyanka Chopra’s much-talked about character as Abhishek Bachchan’s bodyguard in Drona, was suggested by Abhishek. Initially, Priyanka was to play only his love interest.
When contacted, Abhishek revealed, “During the scripting stage, when Goldie said that Priyanka will play my love interest, I suggested that apart from that she should also be my bodyguard. In the film, her father’s character is my father’s bodyguard. Since I take over my family legacy in Drona , I thought why not let Priyanka do that too?” Read more

Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra had a small misunderstanding the other day which led to friction between the two.
But Harman made up with her quickly. He immediately got eleven red roses delivered to the sets of Dostana, where Priyanka was busy shooting. The actress was obviously surprised, but also happy. That helped cool down the hot beauty. But we must say Harman knows how to charm a girl.
