Polling Underway In Gilgit-Baltistan

Skardu: The people of Gilgit-Baltistan are voting today to elect a new legislature that will enjoy more power in political reforms to grant more autonomy for the region.
More than 250 candidates from various political parties and local alliances in the management of 23 seats. Winners are chosen to members of nine seats – six women and three for the technocrats.
Voting in a district Ghiza district was postponed following the death of a candidate.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has emerged as the leading party with 22 nominations followed by Mutahida Qaumi Movement, which has 20 candidates, while other political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-N with 15, PML – Q 14, GBDA 4, Awami National Party 3, Jamaat-Islami 2 and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf 2.
According to the Electoral Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilgit is the population of 319,262 and 218,541 voters are registered. The number of female voters is 96,352 and 122,189 male voters are.
The Electoral Commission has set up 272 polling stations throughout the district of Gilgit including 11 stations have been declared sensitive and 70 as sensitive.
