Mumbai Make a Global City, PM Promises

Mumbai: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday wooed voters in Mumbai in the run up to Lok Sabha polls, promising to turn the metropolis into a world class city.
“Congress believes in modernisation… we will build Mumbai into a truly a global city,” Dr Singh said, pitching for the Congress as the party to vote for.
“There is a special bond between Congress and the people of Maharashtra… Congress is a party that has always worked for building nation… Congress stands for unity.”
Recounting the horror of last year’s 26/11 attacks, the PM said that “terrorists will never succeed, but Mumbai will”. The government will not spare any efforts to defeat terror, he promised.
The PM further stressed on sustaining a high rate of economic growth which is inclusive.
Commenting on the fiver-year rule of his UPA government, Dr Singh said the Centre has focused on building rural infrastructure and on farmers. Noting the loan waiver provided to farmers, the PM said they were now getting better prices.
Saying that he had come to office with a promise to wipe farmers’ tears, Dr Singh said that farmer suicide-hit regions like Marathwada and Vidarbha must gain from the country’s economic growth.
Listing the achievements of his government, the PM recalled the turnaround of the Railways, construction of new airports etc.
