Kalam Moots Single Agency For Intelligence-Gathering

NEW DELHI: Advocating a “national drive” against terrorism, former President APJ Abdul Kalam has pitched for a single agency for gathering and dissemination of intelligence and urged policy makers to have some “out-of-the-box” solutions for tackling militancy and insurgency.
Seeking replacement of the present policies of ‘containing’ terrorism with terror ‘elimination’ strategies, the former President emphasized the need for unity of all good citizens to tackle the network of bad elements.
He made the suggestion here on Tuesday on the occasion of the release of a book – The Folds of Insurgency – written by CRPF’s Inspector General of Police (Operations) A P Maheshwari. Emphasising on how it is important to launch a people’s movement against terrorism, Kalam said: “It cannot be only the government but people’s force which can give a befitting reply to terror groups.”
