Joseph Cao, Health Care’s LONE Republican Supporter Is Rep
One of the 177 Republicans crossed party lines to support the care of the reform of health legislation offered by Democrats.
Rep. Ánh “Joseph” Cao, Republican of Louisiana, who comes from a strongly Democratic district in New Orleans, voted yes on final passage of the legislation. He joined 219 Democrats to the final margin of 220 to 215 in favor of adoption of the reform.
Cao was a great (and possibly the only) target of Democrats hoping to get even a semblance of bipartisan support for the bill. He said after the vote that he had obtained a commitment of President Obama that he and I will work together to address critical health problems of Louisiana. ”
In the past, Cao has been promoted by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) as “the future” of the Republican Party. Republicans clearly went the distance to keep in the fold of the health care vote. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who promised protesters rally a party this week that “a republican not vote in favor of this project,” Cao was standing as the historic vote took place.
