German Bobsledding Favorites In Frightening Crash, Cathleen Martini, a German bobsledder who was a heavy favorite to win gold in the two-man bobsled, was disqualified after a spectacular crash in Vancouver on Wednesday. Canada went on to win the

event. The sled started to skid halfway through the run, and Martini couldn’t control it. At speeds nearing 90 miles per hour, the sled turned on its side. Remy Logsch, Martini’s brakeman, ejected from the sled, sliding across the icy track at Whistler.

The images from this event evoked thoughts of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Georgian luger who died practicing on this same track. Other athletes have questioned the course’s safety, and just today, a Dutch bobsledder withdrew from the four-man race due to his concerns about safety. However, Logsch and Martini walked off the track under their own power.  The shocking part of the crash is that Martini has never crashed before. This season, she has five gold medals, but not the one that truly matters.

Shamu: Latest Updates About Shamu:

World in San Diego has canceled its Shamu whale show at least for Wednesday after an Orlando SeaWorld employee was killed in an encounter with a whale at that theme park.

“We’re terribly saddened by the loss of the member of our SeaWorld family, it doesn’t matter what park,” said SeaWorld San Diego spokesman David Koontz. “We have canceled our afternoon Shamu show here today.”

Koontz said park officials had yet to make a decision about to whether to cancel Thursday’s show.
Orlando SeaWorld officials are not revealing the identity of the victim, although a local TV station is reporting that a female employee was killed after she was grabbed by one of the theme park’s whales at the start of a public show. Park guest Victoria Biniak told the station that the trainer was a veteran of SeaWorld and had just finished explaining to the audience the show they were about to see.
