KARACHI: A local court on Saturday acquitted all the 18 accused of charges that they killed Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) chairperson Mir Murtaza Bhutto and seven of his companions on September 20, 1996, reported ARY NEWS.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Aftab Ahmed Khan announced the judgment in the murder case of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, Ashique Hussain Jatoi and six other workers of PPP-SB group in  a crowded court room near 13 years after the commitment of the mystery-shrouded crime that rattled the then government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as slain PPP chairperson and sister of Murtaza Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, was the sitting Prime Minister.
The complainant had prayed to the court for awarding capital punishment to the accused for intentionally killing eight persons, including a sitting MPA of the Sindh Assembly of that time. During the hearing of the case, Special Public Prosecutor also demanded the conviction of the accused, including former Karachi DIG Dr Shoaib Suddle, former SSP Wajid Ali Khan Durrani, former Intelligence Bureau DG Masood Sharif, ASPs Rai Tahir and Shahid Hayat, three SHOs and a dozen low-ranking police officials.
