Chidambaram Confirms Pak Link To LeT Plot To Attack India

New Delhi: Minister of Interior of the Union P Chidambaram on Friday confirmed the presence of a link of Pakistan that the terror detention plans Lashkar-e-Toiba men Tahawwur David Headley and Rana.
Both U.S. citizen Headley, 49, and Pakistan and a Canadian citizen born in Tahawwur Hussein, Rana, 48, were arrested by the FBI in the U.S. for plotting a major terrorist attack in India, at the behest of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
The duo have revealed they were planning to attack National Defense College in New Delhi, two leading boarding schools located in the hill stations in a state of northern India and some five star hotels in popular tourist sites.
Chidambarm while confirming the angle of Pak-the first official word by the government – said: “There is definitely a link with Pak terror suspect LeT Headley. Pak had visited a number of times.”
He also confirmed that, at the insistence of the FBI, there have been some arrests in Pakistan in connection with the case.
“Following advice from the FBI, two more people have been arrested in Pakistan,” he said.
The development, once again, points to the reluctance of Pakistan to act together with India on issues relating to security of India.
Indeed, the Pakistani media had stated yesterday that the government of Pakistan has arrested a key suspect behind the conspiracy to attack the National Defense College in New Delhi – which leads to the exposure of the LET.
According to a senior journalist of Asia Times, who was interviewed by a private news channel, Islamabad had information about the terrorist plot in advance.
Syed Shahzad Pak said authorities had arrested an al Qaeda in September compared with the planned attack.
However, the fact is that he never reported it to Islamabad, New Delhi.
Detectives probe India join
A research team consisting of Indian RAW and IB officials, who are in Chicago, have been given permission by U.S. authorities grilling terror suspect David Coleman Headley, according to a report released yesterday.
However, there is still uncertainty about whether the FBI has given permission to Indian researchers to examine co-conspirator Rana.
U.S. Newspapers have reported that Headley and Rana, during interrogation, confessed to receiving training Let.
The duo have been shown the reports, which Ejaaj conspired with Let commander of Kashmir to hit the site as well as employees of a Danish newspaper which published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in 2005.
Kashmir, which is closely associated with the murderers of American journalist Daniel Pearl, lives in Pak-occupied Kashmir. He currently holds the number two position in the Lashkar-e-Toiba followed by Abu Sayeed.
Kashmir, which is also known as the Osama bin Laden’s next-in the circles of LeT, is also a noted expert in guerrilla warfare.
