Jammu: The Army assisted by police have launched a massive sensitisation and area domination operations in and around the polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure free and fair polls in the state.
“Army have launched major sensitisation and area domination operations in hilly, remote, hyper sensitive and sensitive areas in and around the polling stations for holding free, fair and incident-free elections in the seven-phased polls in Jammu and Kashmir,” defence sources told reporters.
The exercises have been first launched in Poonch, Surankote, Mendhar, Bandipora, Kupwara, Rajouri, Darhal, Kalakote, Nowshera, Handwara and Gurez areas, they said, adding hill tops and sensitive areas on the ridge lines have been dominated by Army with posts set up by the troops.
In the first phase of elections on November 17, six sections of para-military forces are being deployed in areas falling under hyper sensitive polling stations, four and two sections of forces stationed at sensitive and normal polling stations respectively to guard against militant attacks during polling or before that, they said.
Army assisted by police used sniffer dogs, metal detectors to sensitise the areas around the polling stations and also the road networks for free flow of poll campaign traffic and foil the designs of militants of laying IEDs and mines to target political leaders during campaigning, they said.
